Live Nativity Scene on Church Grounds each Christmas Season
Jesus' Birth is Announced to the Shepherds Luke 2:9-14 It Came Upon the Midnight Clear It came upon the midnight clear that glorious song of old From angels bending near the earth to touch their harps of gold Peace on the earth, good will to men, from heaven's all gracious King. The world in solemn stillness lay to hear the angels sing.
Sunday, Nov. 29th thru
Friday, Dec 25th
Beginning in the 1950s, our church family has honored our Savior's birth at the culmination of the Advent season with a solemn, live Nativity Scene on church grounds from December 22 through December 24, Christmas Eve. Live animals were used in the early years when the island was mostly rural farmland. Many still remember when a baby goat was born during the Live Nativity. For seventy years, we've welcomed members of the James Island community to join our Live Nativity for quiet worship and reflection. On Christmas Eve, after our Candlelit Worship Service, children join the Live Nativity while our church community gathers around with candles to sing and celebrate this Holy Night.
Rejoice, for God is with us — Emmanuel. In the darkness of our world shines God's holy light. Now there is reason to hope, to love, to laugh, to live. God is truly with us. We are not alone. Thanks be to God! Silent Night Silent night, holy night! All is calm, all is bright. Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child. Holy infant so tender and mild, Sleep in heavenly peace, Sleep in heavenly peace. Silent night, holy night! Shepherds quake at the sight. Glories stream from heaven afar Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia, Christ the Saviour is born! Christ the Saviour is born Silent night, holy night! Son of God love’s pure light. Radiant beams from Thy holy face With dawn of redeeming grace, Jesus Lord, at Thy birth Jesus Lord, at Thy birth
