The Rev. Kenneth L. Nelson serves as District Superintendent of the Orangeburg and Walterboro Districts in the South Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. A native of Beaufort, South Carolina, he is an honor graduate of Newberry College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, Religion, and Philosophy, and he holds a Master of Divinity from Duke Divinity School. An ordained elder in full connection, Rev. Nelson brings more than 32 years of pastoral and conference leadership experience, having served congregations across South Carolina as well as Duke University as Assistant Dean of the Chapel and Director of Religious Life. He has also provided significant leadership at the conference level, including roles as Congregational Specialist, Coordinator of Clergy Services, and Secretary of the South Carolina Annual Conference. Since 2020, Rev. Nelson has led the Orangeburg District—and, since 2024, the Walterboro District as well—offering strategic, pastoral, and administrative oversight to more than 100 churches and their clergy. His tenure has been marked by strong organizational leadership and notable achievements in stewardship and district development.
